The role:

  • Reporting to the Chief Counsel, based in our custom-built office in Abingdon, Oxfordshire
  • As the Senior Counsel you will assist the company’s global sales, business development, and marketing teams in a variety of commercial and strategic transactions, from drafting and reviewing term sheets, managing deal processes, drafting and negotiating definitive documentation and providing overall legal counsel
  • You will support the manufacturing, operations and supply chain team with both supply chain contracts and legal advice
  • Create legal standards and processes for the company’s deal pipeline
  • Handle overflow of NDAs and vendor agreements in line with WaveOptics processes
  • Assist with other general commercial or corporate matters
  • The role will also provide you with an opportunity to broaden your skills and support the full range of activities undertaken by the legal department
  • We are growing internationally and you will support this from a legal standpoint and assist in setting up new entities
  • Assist the Chief Counsel in building out IP portfolio
  • Work with outsources partners when required for specialist knowledge


What we need to see:

  • Admission to practice law in the US or England
  • 3-5 years PQE either in a firm or in-house experience
  • Strong experience with commercial agreements: hardware and supply chain experience would be an advantage
  • Experience working on international transactions with colleagues and customers globally
  • Willingness to ‘pitch in’ and be a business partner to your internal clients
  • Ability to effectively work cross-functionally with WaveOptics sales, engineering, tax and finance teams to ensure agreements are consistent with internal corporate policies and processes
  • Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and act decisively
  • Ability to present complex issues in a clear and concise manner and provide succinct, practical and results-oriented legal advice
